# API · Items · Create a project item

POST https://api.simplified.com/api/v1/projects/{resourcetype}/{parent_lookup_project_id}/items
Content-Type: application/json

Create a new item within the project.
The accepted fields vary by resourcetype — inspect a GET response
to see available fields for the target type.

## Authentication

- `Authorization` header (required) (prefixed with ` Api-Key   `) — Header authentication of the form `Api-Key  <token>`
- `Authorization` header (bearer token, required) — Bearer authentication of the form `Bearer <token>`, where token is your auth token.

## Request

### Path parameters

- `resourcetype` (string, required) — Project type selector
- `parent_lookup_project_id` (string, required) — Parent project ID

### Body (application/json)

This endpoint expects a ProjectItemCreateRequest.

- `title` (string, optional) — Item title (defaults to "Untitled Task" if omitted)
- `description` (string, optional) — Optional item description
- `primary_type` (string, optional) — Free-form item category string
- `data` (map from string to any, optional) — Flexible JSON data for this item. Base schema has assets (list of asset IDs) and flags (Dict[str,bool]) but accepts any additional fields.
- `start_date` (datetime, optional) — Optional start date
- `due_date` (datetime, optional) — Optional due date
- `status` (string, optional) — Optional status string (max 16 chars)
- `priority` (integer, optional) — Priority level (default 0)
