# Flows · Runs · Re-run a finished workflow from the beginning

POST https://api.simplified.com/api/v1/workflows/executions/{run_id}/restart
Content-Type: application/json

Re-runs a terminal execution from its first task, using the same input.

Every task runs again, so **credits are spent a second time** and any external
side effect happens again. The run must be in a terminal state
(`COMPLETED`, `FAILED`, `TERMINATED`, `TIMED_OUT`).

`resource: workflow://run-control` covers restart versus retry.

## Authentication

- `Authorization` header (required) (prefixed with ` Api-Key `) — Header authentication of the form `Api-Key <token>`
- `Authorization` header (bearer token, required) — Bearer authentication of the form `Bearer <token>`, where token is your auth token.

## Request

### Path parameters

- `run_id` (string, required) — UUID of a single workflow execution, from `flows_startWorkflow` (returned as `workflow_id`) or `flows_listWorkflowRuns` (returned as `id`). NOT the small integer workflow-definition ID.

### Body (application/json)

This endpoint expects a RestartWorkflowRunRequest.

- `useLatestDefinitions` (boolean, optional, default: false) — When true, restart against the workflow's newest published version instead of the version the original run used. Note the camelCase name — it is the upstream Conductor contract, not a typo, and it is the one field in this namespace that does not follow snake_case.

## Response

### 200

Restart accepted; the run is executing from the top. Body is `{id}`, the same run ID — restarting reuses the run rather than creating one.

## Errors

### 400 Bad Request Error

Run is not in a terminal state.

- `any`

### 404 Not Found Error

No such run in this workspace.

- `any`
